LEBANON –Switzerland of Middle East

Area: 10, 400 sq. km

Population: 3,2 million (maximum number of Christian Population in the West Asia).

Capital: Beirut

Situation: Lebanon is mountainous land about 220 km long and varying between 30 and 60 km wide along the Mediterranean coast, between Israel and Syria.

BEITRUT

·         Capital city, known as the Paris of Lebanon, lies at the cross – roes of Asia, Europe and Africa.

·         Country’s leading commercial city, free   port facilities and also the major industrial centre.

TRIPOLI

·         Major port situated in the northern Lebanon, has oil refineries.

SAIDA

·         Chief commercial centre and entrepot of Iraqi and Saudi oil.

·         Major oil refineries are located on the coast.

Area: 20,700 sq.km

Population: 6. 1 million

Capital: nerusalem

Export: citrus fruit is the main export.

Industry: wine – making is an extensive industry. Centre for diamond cutting and polishing, next to Belgium in the world.
Agriculture: Israel’s collective farming is called Kibbutzim.

JERUSALEM

·         Israel’s capital situated to the west of the Dead Sea.

·         Known as the Holy city, it is a place of pilgrimage for Jews, Muslims and Christians.

HAIFA

·         Important port of Israel situated on the Mediterranean coast.

·         Israel’s heavy industries and refining centre are concentrated.

TEL AVIV – YAFA


·         Israel’s cultural, commercial and industrial centre.
