AFRICA NIGERIA

             Latitude: 4’N-14˚ N
             Capital: Abuja

· Country of lowlands and plateau and also known as ‘land of palm oil’.

· Largest country along the gulf of guinea.

· Regarding population Nigeria has-

I)                    Largest population.
II)                  Highest population density and
III)                Largest tribal population.

· Produces most of the world’s columbium, a mineral used as an alloy to harden steel.


·  The principal port of the country.

IBADAN

· Situated to the north of Lagos.

· Hill top site and an important town of the country.

· Exports mostly agricultural products, mainly groundnuts.

KANO

· City located in the desert fringe

· Once a slave market but now an important collecting centre for hides and especially for groundnuts which are forwarded by trail to Lagos for export.

PORT HARCOURT

· Situated on the Niger delta.

· Busy port of the country, which exports petroleum.

LOKOJA

· Confluence town where the Niger and Benue river meet.

ENUGU

· City known for its coal deposits.

GHANA

       Area: 2, 38, 540 sq. km
       Population: 19.5 million.
       Capital: Accra

· Country known for its cash crop cocoa which is cultivated in cocoa triangle (Accra, Kumasi and tokorandi)
ACCRA

· Capital city of Ghana, it has fine harbor.

· An important port of the country which exports cocoa, diamond, timber of which cocoa is the main export commodity.

SEKONDI TAKORADI

· Modern deep water port of Ghana.

TEMA

· A new port to the east of Accra.

KUMASI

· Principal inland town of cocoa triangle.

TOGO

       Area: 56, 790 sq; km
      Population: 5.0
      Capital: Lome

BENIN

      Area: 1, 12,620 sq km
    Population: 6.4
    Capital: Porto novo
