CAPITAL: Cardiff

·         Originally a coal mining region of both bituminous and anthracite.

·         Now deelined in importance of coal which has led to a change in the location of industry towards coastal region.

·         The reliance oniron ore imports led to the development and concentration of cities on the coast like-Cardiff, swansong, Port Talbot and Newport.

BRISTOL

·         Known for coalfield located on the Severn estuary.

PLYMOUTH

·         City built on RIA (types of coast).

·         Known for ship building industry.

LONDON

          ·         Situated on the river Thames, which is navigable by ocean going ships.

·         The capital of England and U.K., is a great cultural and industrial centre.

·         A big seaport which handles a large amount of cargo and is one of the busiest international airports in the world.

·         World’s first underground railway was counteracted.

LONDON, BRISTO, HULL AND SOUTHAMPTON

·         Major ports developed on tidal estuaries.

AVONMOUTH

·         An important out port for Bristol.

STOKE – ON – TRENT

·         An important pottery town located on the north Staffordshire coalfield.

CREWE

·         Nodal centre for the railways of Britain.

·         Manufactures locomotive engines.
