Situation: the state is bordered by Karnataka and Maharashtra in the west, Chhattisgarh and Orissa in the north, Tamil Nadu in the south and Bay of Bengal in the east with a coastline of 974 km.

HYDERABAD

·         Capital city of Andhra Pradesh.

·         Largest town and the leading industrial and trade centre of the region.

·         Situated on the right bank of the Music, a left bank tributary of the Krishna River.


·         It twin city I Secunderabad.

·         Major industries located here are engineering goods (machine tool), power generation equipments (BHEL), refrigerators and chemicals, aircraft manufacturing, Indian Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Ltd (IDPL), and textile and tobacco factories.

·         Mainly important for electronic industry.

GOLCONDA

·         Situated on River Musi, to the west of Hyderabad about 8 km away.

·         An important fort town and entre for trade in diamonds.

NALGONDA

·         Copper mining entre.

·         In its vicinity Nagarjuna Srisailam Sanctuary is the largest tiger reserve in India.

SECUNDERABAD

·         India’s first underground hydel station in being set up on the left bank of Srisailam Project.

·         One of the leading entre for electric fans.

·         A plant of machine tools under the Praga tools Lt., which mainly manufactures weapon for the Defense Services, is situated.

RAMAGUNDAM

·         Thermal power station is situated which supplies powers to Hyderabad and Warangal.

·         Large coal based fertilizer plant is located.

ZIZAMABAD

·         Sugarcane is raised with the help of canal irrigation.

KARIMNAGAR

·         Sugarcane is raised with the help of canal irrigation.

KARIMNAGAR

·         Silver filigree articles are made.

VISAKHAPATNAM

·         Situated midway between Kolkata and Chennai.

·         Only natural harbor on the east coast and deepest landlocked major port of India.

·         The harbor has fast bulk handling facilities for iron ore and export of iron ore of Bilabial to Japan through this port.

·         Only shipyard of India where diesel cargo ships are built.

·         An oil refinery, a steel plant and a fertilizer factory is located.

·         Ship – building unit including Hindustan Shipyard is also located.

·         India’s first shore- based Visakhapatnam steel plant (VIZAG) has been set up during the Fourth Five Year Plan.

SRIKAKULAM AND VIZIANAGRAM

·         Manganese, the leading mineral of this region, is exported through Visakhapatnam port.

KAKINADA PORT

·         Situate on the northern fringe of Godavari delta.

·         Protected from the sea waves by a long spit, which encloses Corianga Bay.

·         Large fertilizer plantislocate.

·         A port through which tobacco is exported.

·         Large scale modern gas based industries are also located.

KOTTAGUDEM

·         Sponge iron plant is located at Palomcha,20 km away.

·         Fertilizer plant is located.

RAJAHMUNDRY

·         Situated at the head of Godavari delta.

·         Connected with Kakinada port and Vijayawada by navigable canals.

·         Paper is manufactured using bamboo as a raw material.

VIJAYAWADA

·         Situated at the head of Krishna delta.

·         Chromate is mined.

·         Pharmaceuticals and toy – making are important industries.

ELURU

·         Major centre of jute textile industry. ‘

MACHILIPATNAM

·         A minor port situate on the northern side of the Krishna Delta.

·         An important centre for the manufacture of imitation jewellery.

·         It was one of the leading fabric mills of hand woven cloth, during the British rule.

GUNTUR


·         Maximum concentration of tobacco in this region.

KURNOOL

·         Situated on the right bank of Tungabhadra river.

·         Common slat is obtained.

GUNTAKAL

·         Situated to the east of Bellary.

·         A big railway junction and a centre of trade.

ANANTHAPUR

·         Largest district of Andhra Pradesh.

·         Famous for gold expositing Ramgiri.

CUDDAPAH

·         Major producer of turmeric.

·         Known for limestone deposits.

NELLORE

·         Chief town and an important pilgrimage centre of south India in chittoor district. The main temple of Venkateswara is situated on a hill top, Tirumalai.


·         Paper and Straw mills, railway carriage repair workship are located here.
