Capital: Bangalore

Situation: the state is located in the mid western part of the Deccan Plateau. It is bordered by Goa in the North West, Maharashtra in the north and Andhra Pradesh in the east, Tamil Nadu in the south and Kerala in the south west. On its western side in the Arabian Sea with a coastline of nearly 400 km.

BANGALORE

·         Capital city of the state.

·         One of the principal centre of engineering industries of India.

·         First telephone manufacturing factory of India is located at Duravani, 10 km away from Bangalore.


·         Machine tools factory, an aircraft factory (Hindustan Aeronautical Ltd) and watch factory are important industries.

·         Leather goods, particularly boots, shoes, suitcases are manufacturedhere.

·         Principal raw silk collecting centre and silk market.

·         Largest center of electronic goods production and is rightly termed as the ‘Electronic Capital of India’.

KOLAR  

·         The deepest gold mines of India are located.

MYSORE

·         It is called the ‘Garden city of India.

·         Famous for silk textile and Brindavan Garden.

BANDIPUR (CHAMRAJNAGAR)

·         Famous for Bandipur National park which is the home of wild animals like elephants, tiger, nilgail, etc.

MANGALORE

·         An important commercial town and an intermediate port of south Kannara district of Karnataka.

·         Leading manufacturing centre of clay roofing tiles.

·         Port is closed during South West Monsoon season.

NEW MANGALORE

·         Located about 9 km north of Mangalore, it is the mail all – weather seaport in Karnataka.

·         Declared as the ninth major port of India in 1974, developed to export Kudremkh iron ore.

·         It mainly handles cargo vessels.

KUDREMUKH

·         Means ‘horse’s mouth located in Chikmagalur district.

·         Region with very large deposits of iron ore.

HASSAN

·         Agricultural implements and tools are manufactured here.

CHIKMAGALUR

·         Bhadra Hydroelectric project is constructed across the Bhadra River.

BABABUDAN

·         Kemagundi iron ore region is located in the Bababudan hills.

·         Iron ore is  mined and supplied to Bhadrawati iron and Steel plant.

BHARDRAWATI

·         Mahatma Gandhi Hydroelectric project is situated at jog Falls.

·         Visvesvaraya iron and steel works is located at Bhadrawati.

·         The steel town is located just 19 km to the southeast of shimoga.

CHITRADURGA

·         A sugar factory, a match factory and a sandal wood oil factory is located.

KARWAR

·         An intermediate port of Karnataka situated at the left bank of the Kakinada River.

·         It is a naval base well where Sea Bird project is coming up.

·         Karwar port is an all – weather seaport and mainly handles cargo (dry and liquid) vessels.
