Principal languages: Hindi and Rajasthani

Situation: the entire western flank of the state borders with Pakistan an Punjab in the north, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh in the north east, Madhya Pradesh in the southeast and Gujarat in the southwest. It is the largest state in India area wise.

JAIPUR

·         Capital city of Rajasthan is famous as the “pink city”

·         High concentration of sheep of good quality fleece.

·         Manufacturing centre of woolen goods such as carpets.


·         An important centre for cutting and polishing of precious stones, brass enamelware.

·         The first export promotion Industrial park of the country has been established and made operational at sitapur.

GANGANAGAR, HANUMANGARH

·         Well-developed canal irrigation facilities has transformed a hot Inhospitable desert into cool orchard.,

·         The area is called the ‘Granary of Rajasthan’.

·         Cotton and Sugar Industry are major industries.

JAISALMER

·         Situated in the western sandy plains of Rajasthan.

·         Largest district in area (38,401 sq. km.) of the state.

JHUNJHUNU

·         Candara copper project is situating.

·         Khetri (Tehsil of Jhunjhunu district) Located in the northern Aravalli Range has large deposits of copper.

·         Integrated copperminig – cum – metallurgical unit was set up.

·         By – product sulphuric acid and fertilizer triple super phosphate are also manufactured.

ALWAR

·         Situated in the northeastern part of Rajasthan.

·         Diesel engines, heavy motor vehicles and empty gelatin capsules are manufactured.

·         Textile Mill manufacturing, synthetic suiting was also set up.

·         Dariba copper mine is situated about 50 km south – west of alwar city.

·         Site of Sariska tiger sanctuary.

 BHARATPUR

·         Famous for keoladeo Ghana National park where over 350 species of migrant birds are found.

SAWAI MADHOPUR

·         Cement factory is the major industry of the area.

·         The ranthambhor National Park is located which is one of the first sanctuaries in the country to be included in the project tiger.

MAKRANA

·         Situated to the west of Sāmbhar Lake.


·         Produces the finest white marble of very fine crystal in India.

BIKANER

·         Lignite coal of tertiary era having low carbon content in mainly found in Bikaner district of Rajasthan

JODHPUR

·         Situated in the southwestern part of the stet, may be called the central part of the desert.
 
·         One of the biggest rail, air and road junctions in the state.

·         Utensils, stone carving, food processing and engineering industries are the main industries located here.

NAGAUR

·         One of the major mining regions of gypsum in Rajasthan having maximum share in its
 reserves (95%) and production (85%) in Rajasthan.

·         Known for Nagaur cattle breeds.

AJMER

·         Town situated in the middle of aravalli range.

·         Known for cotton textile mill, a hosiery factory, lace making and embroidery on silk.

·         A unit of HMT (Hindustan machine tools) is situated.

BHILWARA

·         An important centre for manufacturing and finishing textiles.

BUNDI

·         Cement factory is located here.

KOTA

·         Situated on the right bank of Chambal River.

·         Only city of India where three types of power generating plants namely Hyde, thermal and atomic are installed.

·         Receiving electricity from the Chambal Valley Project.

·         Largest Nylon plant of India.

·         A precision instrument Plant is located.

·         An important Centre of stone quarrying.

ANTA (KOTA DISTRICT)

·         Gas from Bijou is used for producing electricity.

GADEPAH

·         Situated 35 km away from Kota.

·         Location of fertilizer plant which; produces urea.

LAKHERI

·         Situated about 47 km to the north of kota.,

·         Limestone is quarried for cement manufacturing.

UDAIPUR

·         Situated to the east of the Aravalli Range in southern Rajasthan.

·         Known as the ‘City of Lakes’ where besides fine lakes, the world’s biggest artificial lake jai Sam and Lake is also located.

·         Tiles and slabs of marble and quartzite are made on a large scale.

ZAWAR

·         Situated about 40 m southeast of Udaipur City in the southern Aravalli Range.

·         Zinc –lead mines are located.

DEBARI

·         Located near Udaipur.

·         Lead and zinc smelting units are located where zinc is obtained through Zawar mines.


·         Processing of rock phosphate obtained in slurry form in pipeline from Maton mines.
